What's the best way to be able to tell the size of your fish? It's a tape measure, right. Measuring how large your catch is probably the most effective way to know how large your fish actually is. I know for me , if you say "I caught a 14 inch Rainbow", I know exactly what you're referring to. To me this means that measuring your catch in inches is a universal barometer of how large your fish is.
Sure, there are going to be variations as far as the weight of your catch goes, but for the most part measuring your catch in inches gives everyone a great idea of the size of your fish. So we carry tape measures with us in our tackle boxes, or if we're waders we carry small tape measures in our fishing vests. Carrying a tape measure has worked fine for me for many years, it's simply that every time I need to measure a fish, my tape measure is never where I thought I put it, and I end up having to rifle through my fishing vest like some sort of coked up mail sorter trying to find it.

Everyone's an Expert, So Who Has The Right Answers?
Have you ever been stuck in a conversation with a fisherman who thinks they know everything there is to know about night fishing?
One thing most experts will tell you, is that the "Evening Secret" will swarm fish to your spot, so you can catch a lot more. (www.eveningsecretfishing.com/specialsecret/experts.php)
I know I have. After listening about how many fish this person caught yesterday or hearing about the 8 pounder he brought home last week, it may be tempting to take the advice this person gives with absolute certainty.
And in some cases, this is a good idea. I am a strong believer in listening to experts who are achieving the results I want to achieve, learn what they do, and then do the same thing myself.
I have had good success with this method in the past, but there is one thing to be careful of.

Now that you have caught your dream fish, do you know how to clean?
Good job. You must be so proud of yourself. You have just landed the biggest fish of all. How do you clean it? You certainly don't want those ugly fish scales all over your wife's clean kitchen. Now… what to do. What about cleaning the fish before you leave your fishing spot.
You will need a great knife to start with-a fish fillet knife. Spread out some old newspaper. Use a fish scaler or knife and work against the grain of the scale. Once all the scales are removed, you can toss the newspaper and rinse the fish.

As a matter of fact, some anglers have one or two rods, and that's it. If they're going trout fishing they use the same rod as they do if they are trying to catch carp. This is a mistake. You need to have different fishing rods for different fishing situations. The biggest reason for this is that it will help you catch more fish. If the wrong fishing rod is being used, bites will be much more difficult to detect, and therefore less fish will be caught.

It is not a pleasant smell for most people. I know there are those that say they grew up thinking that fish was supposed to smell like fish, but most find the lingering odor after the fish is long eaten to be unpleasant.
