Besides the obvious supplies of rods and reels, there are really a lot of other supplies you should have in your fly fishing arsenal. It can make the difference between a great fishing trip and a so-so fishing trip when you have a variety of products at your disposal. So what types of supplies will you need to have on hand?

To begin with, you should have an ample supply of flies. When you are out on a river or stream, you will want to match the food source that is readily available to the fish. They are much more likely to bite when they recognize their normal food as opposed to anything else. When you have several flies available, you can adapt depending on what types of insects you see on your particular stretch of water.

The average fisherman is between 42 and 46 years old. Anglers are of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Seventy percent are married, about a third are women. Perhaps most tellingly, the typical angler has a larger annual income than the average US citizen.

Ask them about their lifestyle, where they're from, what kind of diet they're into, and other aspects of their daily life. Of course, we aren't talking literally about having this conversation! You can find out about all of this crucial information without even phoning a fish.

Why are all these questions important? It is because you won't have any success at fishing unless you know what kind of prey you're hunting, and know what kind of equipment you need to catch them. You see, fishing gear is very specific to the type of fish it's meant to capture.

Moreover, fishing gears and accessories would also require various lures specifically for various fish species. Just as fishing gears, there are also various types of lures to be used, depending on the type of fish to be captured - but that is another story.

If you're anything like me, you where a fishing vest to carry all of your fishing gear. If you do any walking during your fishing trip, a tackle box just doesn't cut it. So you need to wear a fishing vest. You can find them at any decent sporting goods store or of course on the internet. I believe this idea began with fly fishermen (or flea flickers as my mentor used to refer to them), but I'm not positive about that. In any case, it's a very convenient idea, and if flea flickers are the reason for it, god bless 'em.

So what do you need to carry in your fishing vest? Pretty much anything that you think you may need on a given fishing excursion. This will vary depending on the type of fish that you're fishing for, but there are some basics. I'll begin with them.
