Ice Fishing

Fishing on the ice can be pleasant and rewarding with the right equipment. Using the right ice auger, fishing pole, tip-up, line, reel, and wearing the proper clothing is all part of ice fishing success. Let’s face it, if are not comfortable, you will not enjoy the experience. If you don’t have the proper equipment, or good working equipment, you may not have success or very much fun!

The Tip-Up is necessary in my mind because it allows you to fish in numerous spots all at the same time. I start with three holes in the ice and three tip-ups all positioned about 30 to 40 feet or more from each other so you are fishing different areas of the lake at one time rather than sitting at one spot with a . I like to sit in one spot jigging with a fishing pole while keeping an eye out for all the tip-ups, so I’m actually fishing 4 spots all at the same time, increasing my chances of catching fish greatly. Be careful not to place the tip-ups to far away from where you are going to be. You need to make sure you are able to get there quick enough when you get a bite.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service report, there are 44 million Americans over the age of six go fishing. That’s one out of five that buy bait, lures, fishing hooks, spinners, and flies. Almost twice as many people fish, as play golf.

The average fisherman is between 42 and 46 years old. Anglers are of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Seventy percent are married, about a third are women. Perhaps most tellingly, the typical angler has a larger annual income than the average US citizen.

Fishing Lures

Imagine this: You are on sitting on the dock, feet hanging over the side, and a in your hand. You are talking to your best friend, drinking a coke, when there is a quick jerk on your fishing pole. You start reeling as fast as you can, and after a minute or two the fish finally emerges from the water hanging from your on the end of the line. What an adrenaline rush.

Fishing is one of the most popular and relaxing ways for one to spend their leisure time. It is also one of the best ways to bond with family and friends. I’ll never forget the first time my dad took me fishing, it is one the best memories of my childhood.

Fishing like many other sports and hobbies requires costly equipment. A can cost as much as a new car. Fishing poles can cost anywhere from $20-$200. Don’t forget about other equipment such as , weights, a , and most importantly a vast variety of fishing lures.

Lures are the main factor that decides whether or not you catch a fish. Different fish are attracted to certain types and colors of lures, at certain times of the year. So to be prepared for all these circumstances a fisherman must have an extensive assortment of fishing lures.

Instead of buying fishing lures some fisherman choose to make their own.
