Top Water Bass Fishing Tips

Bass Fishing

It's 5:30am and you're already on the water. The water is like glass and all is quiet around you. Next to you in the boat is a cooler filled with your favorite beverage (whether it's beer or Pepsi is up to you!). As you approach your favorite hole, you pick up your rod and tie on a surface lure. You cast your line toward the shore and present your topwater offering.

All of a sudden, the water explodes and you are in the battle of your life with a lunker largemouth! He feels like he goes maybe 3 or 4 pounds. As you get him boat side, you reach down and lift him out of the water. Larger than you expected, around 5 pounds! You turn and drop your prize into the live well and prepare for the next cast...

The thrill of topwater bass fishing is addictive. There is a BIG difference between catching that elusive largemouth off the bottom, from the middle or from the surface. Topwater bass fishing is a more visual experience than other types of fishing. There are specific types of rods and lures for topwater bass fishing.

Fishing

What's the best way to be able to tell the size of your fish? It's a , right. Measuring how large your catch is probably the most effective way to know how large your fish actually is. I know for me , if you say "I caught a 14 inch Rainbow", I know exactly what you're referring to. To me this means that measuring your catch in inches is a universal barometer of how large your fish is.

Sure, there are going to be variations as far as the weight of your catch goes, but for the most part measuring your catch in inches gives everyone a great idea of the size of your fish. So we carry tape measures with us in our tackle boxes, or if we're waders we carry small tape measures in our fishing vests. Carrying a tape measure has worked fine for me for many years, it's simply that every time I need to measure a fish, my tape measure is never where I thought I put it, and I end up having to rifle through my fishing vest like some sort of coked up mail sorter trying to find it.

Many a good angler has learnt a lot by keeping his eyes and ears peeled during his amateur days of fishing. A lot can be learnt just by observing and listening to the "gurus" talk about a sport or pastime that you are interested in. In the sport of bass fishing many good catches have been the result of a good tip from the experts in their field.

Let us take for instance, a sea bass fishing expedition. An amateur will not know that the kid of tackle he is using is not suited for the kind of fish he is trying to lure. An experienced fisherman will tip him on the mistake he is making and this could lead to him making a catch where he would never have been able to without the tip. Something as simple as changing tackle can make a big difference.

Top 20 Bass Fishing Tips

Bass Fishing

Before heading out to catch some , take a look at these 20 important bass .

1. Fish slowly, providing better action and enabling the fish to have ample eye contact.

2. When the bite seems to slow down, you should slow also down. Work methodically until you find the fish.

3. Always be aware of your weather forecast. Wind, storms, and lightening kill. Safety comes first.

4. If wet feet bother you on rainy days, try a pair of GORE-TEX sox. They are waterproof and can be worn in any shoe or boot.

5. Be alert and watchful. Fish give away their presence 90% of the time through baitfish fleeing; surface action; or vegetation movement.

6. Always look in a bass’ mouth before releasing it. Most of the time, when fighting a lure in his jaw, a bass will try to throw up whatever is in his stomach. You may be able to determine what prey the fish are actively feeding on and choose a lure/presentation to duplicate it.

7. Set the hook on a fish by feel rather than by sight.

8. Regularly check your knot for weakness and hook for sharpness.

9. Bass are not that smart. A swivel does not affect the action of a in a negative way and fish don’t really care about it. Use one anytime there is the potential for line twist.

10. If you are using small , don't jerk hard on the hookset; just tighten up the slack with the rod and reel faster.

Fishing For Trout

Trout Fishing

You will mainly find in rivers rather than lakes but that is not to say you will not find them in lakes at all, its just that given a choice they would prefer the flowing water of a river. The main types of trout found are brown, cutthroat, brook and my favourite the rainbow.

Catching a small trout is not that hard to do its catching the big ones where the challenge comes in.

Some people prefer as a way of catching these fish, others say using a is best but in the end its what is best for you. Spinners are also known to work for some so just see what works for you. Some of the flies that are on the market do not seem to resemble any fly or insect at all. This is because to a fish it is not the imitation of a fly that matters it is more just a case of food recognition.
