Your Choices For Bass Fishing Hooks

Experienced bass fishermen have already learned about the different types of bass available. Novices in the sport should take the opportunity to learn about the different type of hooks and their particular uses and advantages.

Off Shank Hooks

Off shank hooks are best used with artificual bait. They feature a bend at the top of the hook where it is connected to the fishing line. are constructed in this manner by design. The way they function is by turning directly in to the fish's mouth when the hook is set. The way the fisher sets the hook impacts whether or not he or she catches a fish, particularly when using artificial lures. While regular hooks can be effective, shank hooks help catch a greater quantity of bass fish. They also deliver consistent results.

Straight Shank Hooks

Straight shank hooks are very effective when used with live bait. Minnows, for example, work very well with this straight shank hooks. The design of a straight shank hook doesn't inhibit the movement of the live bait. Because this type of hook allows the bait to swim, the bait is able to do its job. The bait's job is to draw fish to it. Upon striking at the , the fish actually inhales it. When the hook is set, it then gets caught in the hard bony sides of the mouth of the fish.

The Best Saltwater Bait

Saltwater Balt

Saltwater fishing is an entirely different sport than and has a lot of specialized techniques, materials, and needs. This includes the saltwater bait that you use for any particular kind of fish you intend to catch. There are, of course, several choices for kind of saltwater to use, but typically, this is based on what you are fishing for.

For example, if you are fishing for , you'll use a different type of saltwater bait than you would to fish for flounder. Redfish respond well to grubs, especially those between 2 and 4 inches long. On a good day, the use of smaller grubs is highly productive; however, on days when you can't seem to get a bite, try using bigger grubs, closer to 4 inches in length. This will attract redfish often even when they aren't particularly hungry.

Purpose Of Fishing Rod Holders

Fishing Rod Holders

Fishing is a sport designed for relaxation. It is where fish lovers pride themselves of the caught while celebrating it with friends and family.

The is a fishing tool that allows fishermen to multi-task easily. It was invented because fishing requires the use of both hands in the whole process of luring, clearing and removing the fish from the hooks. With all these tasks, letting go of the pole is difficult. The fishing rod holder was intended for anglers to be able to make use of both hands.

The first design of fishing rod holders had two parts. The first is a pole-binding device with a strap placed on the railing to tie up to the fishing pole. The second part is a Velcro strap that could be tied on your limb, arms or waist.

The first designs needed improvement because when the straps were placed on the waist, it is wedged into anything you hit. Therefore, a new design of rod holder was invented which has four parts – two pole clips and two straps.

Depending on what fishing position you are in, the short strap is used to be wrapped around your wrist or forearm and the long strap is wrapped around your ankle or leg.

Catch & Release Fishing

Know the proper technique for catch and release fishing. Keep those big ones healthy and strong. Your kids and grandkids will thank you!

There is nothing more enjoyable in this world than a great day on the water. If conditions are perfect and the are active things don’t get much better. Well, maybe catching big fish can add a level of excitement that is hard to match.

Fish populations across North America are, in general, suffering. Stocking efforts and recovery programs are happening virtually in every jurisdiction. Some areas are suffering more than others. Think about it. How often have you heard someone say, “The fishing just isn’t as good as it was a few years ago”. That goes for a number of lakes and rivers right across this continent.

The good news is you can do something about it. Catch and release fishing is one of the keys to help populations recover. It is pretty straight forward – keep only what you are going to eat. And just as importantly, let go the big one’s (they lay many times more eggs during the spawn).

Too often we see keep more fish than they will eat. Often this is done out of ignorance of the impact to the water system. Unfortunately too often it is done out of lack of respect for the fish and water they are taken from.
